Virtual interview with Julie Simsar

Julie: I use to windsurf, and when my husband (boyfriend back then)picked it up, I also did!

Pablo: did someone encouraged you to compite KPWT and PKRA?

Julie: Not really. I have always liked competition, and competiting in kiteboarding was the normal flow for me.

Pablo Which riders did influate in your style?

Qué riders influyeron en tu estilo?

Julie: I don't really get my inspiration from a rider in particular. I would probably define my style as a wake style, but also enjoy the good old old school tricks every once in a while.

Pablo: Which measures do you use in normal conditions of board, kite and lines?

Qué medidas de cometa, tabla y líneas sueles usar en condiciones normales?

Julie: In Puerto Rico, I use 90% of the time my 8m, 130cm Aura for Freestyle and 5.8 LF Surf for the waves.
En Puerto Rico uso el 90% de las veces 8m, 130 cm Aura para freestyle y 5.8 LF surf para olas.

Pablo: And in extreme conditions?

Y en condiciones extremas?

Julie: In extremely strong winds, I would use my 6m. I don't really like kiting when it blows over 30knts…

En condiciones extremas de viento fuerte, usaría 6m. Realmente no me gusta kitear cuando sopla más de 30 nudos.

Pablo: Do you think that different measurement of the lines can flatte for sailing with different winds?

Qué piensas sobre las diferentes medidas de lineas para navegar con diferentes vientos?

Julie: Yes, line length make a big difference in the power of your kite. The shorter the lines, the smaller the flying radius, and the less power.

Sí, la longitud de las líneas marca una gran diferencia en tu cometa, Cuanto más cortas las líneas, menor el radio de vuelo, y menor potencia.

Háblame sobre la cometa Havoc. Y los diferentes comportamientos entre las medidas.

Julie: I have been using the Havoc since last year, and really like it.

He estado usando la Havoc desde el año pasado y realmente me gusta.

1. Qué tamaño de kite necesitas usar hoy? tienen tan buen rango de viento que la mayoria de las veces he podido usar 2 tamaños (por ejemplo 8 ó 10)
2. Buen ceñida
3. Suelo tener muchas tendinitis y la Havoc realmente ha resuelto estos problemas, es suave con el cuerpo.

Pablo: Tell me about Liquid Force boards al kites.

Háblame sobre las cometas y tablas Liquid Force.

Julie: Liquid Force came up with the Jimmy Redmond designs; the Recoil, the Recoil Comp, the Aura, and Aura comp. The Auras are the women board, which are made lighter and have a softer feel. The comps are the 2008 design of the high performance board.

Liquid Force viene de los diseños de Jimmy Redmond; la Recoil, la Recoil Comp, la Aura, and Aura comp. Las Auras son las tablas para mujeres, son mas ligeras y tiene un tacto suave. Las comps son el diseño de alto rendimiento del 2008.

Pablo: Which one of all the travels is the one you prefer?

Cuál de todos los viajes es tu preferido?

Julie: It is a hard pick, but Turkey is probably one of the top ones. My parents live there, the wind blows all summer, and the food is outstanding!

Es difícil escoger uno, pero Turquía es probablemente uno de los primeros. Mis padres viven alli, el viento sopla en verano y la comida se sale.

Describe un día perfecto para tí.

Julie: It most likely would be as follow: Wake up around 8: 30, breakfast (essential for me), stretch, go kite all day, come home, have a nice dinner and a drink, read a little and go to bed!
El mejor sería así: Despertarme sobre las 8:30, desayunar (básico para mí), estirar y calentar, ir a navegar todo el día, volver a casa, tomar una buena cena y beber, leer un rato e ir a la cama.

Pablo: Something you hate in kite boarding.

Odias algo en el kite?

Julie: Competitions that are ran in 10 knots of wind.
Competir rondando 10 nudos de viento .

Pablo: Which is your favourite trick?

Cuál es tu truco favorito?
 

Julie: Back mobe. I like the power of it, but how smooth it can be if done right.
Back mobe. Me gusta su potencia, pero ¡cuán suave puede ser si se hace bien!

Cómo es el kite en Puerto Rico, Francia y Turquía?

Julie: Puerto Rico is definitely the place that I know the best. It has kite spots all around the island, trade winds blow 9 months out of the year and it's always warm. I just finished a kite story on Puerto Rico, and you will hopefully soon be able to see it. In Turkey, I have kited the west coast and Istanbul. It blows all summer long (and I'm sure much more… but I always go in the summer), about 20-25 knots, and onshore. I would like to take time this summer to go check out the south coast as well, where there will actually be a Turkish competition. Finally France: although I grew up there, I have only kited there a few times.. and enjoyed it each time.

 Puerto Rico es definitivamente el lugar donde es mejor. Tiene spots alrededor de toda la isla, los alisios soplan 9 meses al año y son cálidos. He terminado la historia de Puerto Rico, y podrás verla pronto. En Turquía, he navegado en la costa Oeste y Estambul. Sopla durante todo el verano (y estoy segura que mucho más... pero siempre he ido en verano), sobre los 10-15 knots, y onshore. Me gustaría tener tiempo este verano y comprobar la costa Sur donde actualmente será la competicion turca. Finalmente Francia, aunque crecí allí, sólo navegué unas pocas veces, y disfruté cada vez.

Pablo: How have being this year for you?

Cómo está siendo para tí este año?

Julie: 2008 has started great for me, and I want to thank my sponsors for their support. It's only april and I have already had the chance to do a kitestory on Puerto Rico, and a competition in Mexico.

2008 ha empezado bien para mí, y quiero dar las gracias a mis sponsors por su apoyo. Es sólamente abril y ya he tenido oportunidad de hacer historia en el kite de Puerto Rico y en la competición de Méjico.

Cuáles son los planes para este temporada?

Julie: My plans are to mix competitions, kite story and travels. My next destination is Cabarete at the end of june.

Mis planes son una mezcla de competiciones, historia del kite y viajes. Mi siguiente destino es Cabarete a finales de junio.

      

Pablo: Which has been your best year?

Cuál ha sido tu mejor año?

Julie: So far, 2006 because I finished 2^nd on the kpwt, and was also able to do a lot of other travels. I also have a feeling that 2008 will be great!

Hasta la fecha, 2006 porque acabé segunda en la Kpwt y fueron posibles también un montón de otros viajes. También siento que el 2008 será bueno!

Pablo: Which has been your worst moment in your sportive career?

Cuál ha sido tu peor momento en tu carrera deportiva?

Julie: Shoulder injury

Te gusta navegar en la PKRA o sientes mucha presión?

Julie: I enjoy competiting on the PKRA as the level is really high and I learn a lot. It also motivates me to push myself to learn better and faster!

Me divierto compitiendo en la PKRA, el nivel realmente alto y aprendo mucho. me motivo a mi misma el aprender mejor y más rápido.

Pablo: What do you think about the Spanish level?

Qué piensas sobre el nivel en España?

Julie: With riders such as Angela Peral, Ceasar Portas and Alvarro, the Spanish level is really out there!

Pablo: Tell me something special about your style when you go on the board...

 Julie: I try to keep the kite low, and have a powered style.

Intento llevar la cometa baja y tener un estilo potente.

Pablo: As well of kite boarding, which other things you do?

Además del kite qué otras cosas haces? 

Julie: I like to swim, stretch, take care of my dog, renovate my apartment, etc… I'm rarely bored!

Me gusta nadar, estirar y calentar, cuidar mi perro, renovar mi apartamento, etc... estoy realmente aburrida!!

Pablo: What do you do during the winter, between two seasons?

Now Arthur (Nighthauler' nickname) wants to get a question: what do you think is the relationship between fins's size and navigation's style?

Y finalmente decirte que www.prokiteforum.com, foro oficial de prokitespain, ha abierto una sección que invita a sus usuarios a preguntar en la entrevista de cada mes. Ahora Arturo (Nighthauler es su alias) quiere preguntarte: cuál crees que es la relación entre el tamaño de las quillas y el estilo de navegación?

Julie: In freestyle, the size of the fins depends on the size of the board you are using and your weight. It also depends what you are looking for: a smaller fin will have a slidier feel to it, and a bigger fin will have more edge and your board will stick more to the water.

En freestyle, el tamaño de las quillas depende del tamaño de la tabla que estés usando y tu peso. Tambien depende de lo que estés buscando: una quilla pequeña tiene un tacto slidier, y una quilla grande tiene más agarre y tu tabla se pegará mas al agua
