The swell started in the morning at around 1 meter with winds around 15 knots and by the end of the day we had 5 meter sets and 20 knots of wind; we could not have asked for better conditions. The competition featured many international and local riders. In the end it was the Dutch brother sister combo of Jalou and Kevin Langeree who won the PKRA Dakhla wave event. Day six of the O’Neill Kiteboard World Cup began as one of the most promising days so far, with significant breeze and suitable freestyle conditions. Blowing at 15-17 knots from the NNE direction, Kevin Langeree (NED) and Ewan Jaspan (AUS) took center stage in front of the judges, throwing down the best maneuvers and most impressive tricks they could showcase. Langeree advanced in this round, ultimately setting the pace for the following heats. The low tide sometimes proved to be difficult, as several riders landed tricks on the beach, rather than the water. Liam Whaley (ESP) also moved forward early on with an impressive Front Mobe, while Carlos Madson (BRA) competed a nice S-7. Sholte, a hometown favorite, put up just as much of a fight with a quality Blind Judge, among other well placed moves. |

Pablo: Tell us about you, how did you start in this sport?
Marilou: I always wanted to compete, even when I was wakeboarding and snowboarding, but I was sort of to ‘shy’ for it. Now, a bit older, I finished everything I wanted (University and I even had a bit of carrier experience) I have no more reason not to try it! I first started kiting in Quebec (French part of Canada) 5 years ago. Then, move from place to place, in search of wind. I even stop in St Pere Pescador to teach with K3 and really liked it (I Love the Spanish vibe!). Since 2 years now, I’m more dedicated to the sport and my personal goals. Every year there is some progress, new sponsors, stuff that I learn. It’s a different way of leaving life. It’s leaving every day ‘for’ and ‘from’ your passion. It’s worth any difficulties! I try to appreciate every moment of it. |
